A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

Another Master-piece! After re-releasing ‘Master’, Displeased Records does us the pleasure of re-releasing ‘On the Seventh Day God Created…Master’.

There is only been a year between ‘Master’ and this album, but the line-up had drastically changed. Out went drummer Bill Schmidt and guitarist Chris Mittleburn and Speckmann welcomed Aaron Nickaes and Paul Masvidal.

Because of the line-up change, the band evolved a bit as well; better solos (although I’ve read Masvidal stepped in just 2 days before recording, a kind of like James Murphy on Obituary’s ‘Cause of Death’), better vocals, better song structures and a better production.

But everything is still 100% old school Death Metal, no blast beats bonanza all the time but just pure powerful polka-skin bashing. Primitive…but in a good way. On ‘Latitudinarian’ and ‘Submerged in Sin’ you can hear one of the best Death Metal vocalist growls along with Speckmann. Indeed, John Tardy is the man I’m talking about and it gives just a little bit extra.

Also on this rerelease Displeased throws in a bonus DVD with 2 live shows from 1992 and 1993. This DVD beholds better quality than the one of the ‘Master’ rerelease. Not only the sound and visualisation but also the savagery on stage as well.

The same advise as with the ‘Master’ re-release, if you don’t owe it already and your game is old school Death Metal: Buy it blindfolded! Essential re-release!
