I came across Intercorpse through Everlasting Spew Bandcamp and had no idea what to expect from this Italian four piece. Their self titled EP was released on 25 September 2026 and contains four songs running just under seventeen minutes. That was enough for me to give it a spin, and the first thing that grabbed me was the guitar sound. It has that dirty early Swedish Death Metal character where the riffs are heavy without being overly polished.
The influence from the early Grave era is pretty obvious, especially in the guitar work, but Intercorpse don’t simply copy that sound from beginning to end. The songs move between faster sections and slower passages, giving the EP some breathing room. ‘Deep Carnal Gash’ gets straight into the heavier side of things, while ‘Sexual Scorge Ritual’ slows everything down and brings in a darker, almost Doom Metal feel. There are moments there that reminded me of the early Paradise Lost period, particularly the heavier side of ‘Lost Paradise’. ‘Stench of a Lacerated Virgin’ then pushes the pace back up and closes the EP without dragging things out.
The recording suits the material. The guitars have enough dirt and weight to them, while the drums and vocals remain clear enough to follow without taking away that rough Death Metal character. Nothing sounds unnecessarily cleaned up or dressed up, which is important with this kind of music. The whole thing has the feel of a band that knows exactly which part of the Death Metal tradition they want to work from.
I also like the fact that they kept this to four songs. Sixteen minutes is more than enough time to get the idea across without stretching the material for the sake of making a longer release. You get the Swedish influence, the heavier slower sections and the more aggressive parts without having to sit through unnecessary filler.
Intercorpse are a new name to me, but this is the kind of debut that makes me want to keep an eye on what they do next. If early Swedish Death Metal is your thing, especially the darker and heavier side of it, this EP is worth checking out.
