You know that when you see a rotting pink monster on the cover then most probably the album will be at least worth hearing. This is the case with the debut album ‘Spiral Crypts’ by the Canadian Death Metal band Disembodiment.

The four guys in the group (Carl: bass/vocals, Eric: drums, Chris: guitars, vocals and Math: vocals) have an EP called ‘Mutated Chaos’ from 2021 and in 2025 they unleash upon the world their first full-length record. From the start of ‘Morbid Infestation’ you are attacked by a swarm of heavy guitar riffs, blasting drumming and the deep growls of Math. The tempo varies from slow doomy through mid-paced to grinding. Disembodiment possess this dark and filthy vibe that makes bands like Incantation and Immolation so unique and praiseworthy. There are even some slight synths in the background that contribute to the dark atmosphere of ‘Spiral Crypts’.

Songs like ‘Stygian Overture’ offer painfully slow passages that suddenly burst into a grinding frenzy. The deep vocals are mixed with higher screaming evident in the title track ‘Spiral Crypts’ where the ominous synths play a prominent role and some Death Metal-like guitar progressions might be heard. The ‘Larval’ track starts with an intro, reminding a bit of the Mortician style, before pummeling the listener with a mid-tempo heavy sonic assault that is fully capable of breaking your neck. The full-blast speed is back again in ‘Infected To Rot’ this time combined with some breakdown parts. ‘Unknown Origins’ offers the same formula of fast/slow playing and after that comes the final track ‘Sentient Inorganic Mess’ which starts with a throbbing bass sound which turns into a grinding audio blast.

As a whole the debut album of Disembodiment is one enjoyable affair, especially if you like your Death Metal sounding like Incantation & Immolation. The sound is good and the cover is funny which is a plus point for a Death Metal release. These guys have a huge potential and hopefully we will hear more from them soon.
