From Atlanta, Georgia, USA comes Metaphobic, a band created in 2018 and unleashing upon the world its debut full-length album ‘Deranged Excruciations’ via the mighty Italian label Everlasting Spew Records.
The record starts with ‘Spectral Circle’, and what you hear is dark and brutal Death Metal in the vein of Incantation. Danny Dasher’s vocals are reminiscent of the demonic gurgles of Demilich. The second track ‘Mental Deconstruction’ demonstrates surprisingly melodic guitar leads which then merge into a whirlwind of total sonic darkness. I know the term Cavernous Death Metal has been used a lot lately for different bands, but here in the case of Metaphobic it hits the right spot. ‘Execration’ crushes skulls with deranged blastbeats and dissonant guitar riffs, but Metaphobic are skilled enough to offer various tempo changes. ‘Disciples of Vengeance’ is a slow, dirgy tune that comes close to Funeral Doom Metal speed; with the longest duration on the album, it is over 9 minutes long. ‘Veiled Horizons’ puts the blasting speed back on track with some pretty vicious guitar parts, rumbling bass, and a galloping tempo. Good things should be said about the production of ‘Deranged Excruciations’ because every instrument can be heard and there isn’t anything that is irritatingly high or low in the mix.
Metaphobic’s debut album is an impressive piece of Dark Dissonant Death Metal work with deep growls from the bowels of the earth. The band shows a lot of potential and their future looks bright/dark. In case you are into high-quality Incantation-type Death Metal music, then check this out by all means!
