Grimy horror Death Metal is a style that works well in Italy, in no small part due to the Italian film phenomenon Lucio Fulci, who brought so much bloodshed to the screen and serves as an excellent inspiration for musical excursions that accompany such nasty acts. In this case, it is the film ‘Voices from Beyond’…by Fulci. A tribute in the form of a soundtrack, if you will.
‘Exhumed Information’, is half groovy Death Metal and half 80s synth, bringing names like Carpenter to mind. Whether dividing these two styles across the two sides of the record was a wise choice is debatable, alternating them might have been an option, but if you dislike one of them, you only need to play the other side. No ‘Testimony of the Ancients’, style skipping here.
The groovy mid-tempo Barnes-era Cannibal Corpse and Avulsed around ‘Stabwound Orgasm’, and ‘Yearning for the Grotesque’, are the primary guidelines if you wish to categorise Fulci. If you can enjoy both styles presented on ‘Exhumed Information’, it is worth to give it a spin.
