Reekmind’s ‘Glints from the Crematorium’ is some pure, cold filth. It occupies the murky territory between Death Metal and Doom, without ever really fully leaning into one discipline, hopping back and forth the whole time. The riff work here is just filthy; one moment we get the chugging, chainsaw like attack before slumping into sludgy, echo like moments that seem to bounce around some frigid crypt, this shift in momentum gives these longer pieces real weight. As each of these tracks is lengthy enough to establish that atmosphere and hold steady, it never feels like it needs to rush.

But really what I most appreciated was the drumming here. Its surprisingly clean and often it feels louder then the guitar section, something that can often ruin the flow of an otherwise good piece of music. But here it’s perfect as it grounds each song into an overwhelming sense of weight, and does not let slow sections get too flat.

The vocals are nasty and they crawl across the music like rotten gristle, which really fits with the mental imagery and lyrics to complement the frigid, corrupt vibe that has been running throughout these tracks.

These are definitely long Death/Doom cuts and at no point does the listener feel any fatigue. ‘Glints from the Crematorium’ feels more like being led slowly on a frozen trek through a bleak wasteland. Filthy, cold and haunting from start to finish.
