‘Centurion’s Demise’ get’s to the point quick. Dishumane throw you into low tuned nastiness, based on harsh pinch harmonics, tempo switches and riffs that constantly feel like they’re going to collapse at any second but snap back into the rhythm. There’s a lot of early Deicide in the faster pieces, especially when the guitars become skittish, but the EP becomes even heavier when it slows down.
Those heavier parts have this suffocating feeling that feels a lot like Immolation and Incantation where the riffs not only feel like they’re trying to out run you but they are chasing you down to crush you.
Have to mention Charlie Koryn’s drumming sounds massive and physical. Really does a great job, even in the frantic parts. I must say that there is some good leading lines into the slower sections that gives the record a bit more depth that’s unusual in such aggressive music.
What I like the most is the space that Dishumane covers without leaving the EP feel scattered. It moves from full pace with aggression directly to an ugly and slow Doom/Death dirge. If you appreciate that uglier side of the American 90s Death Metal with a balance between speed and gloom, plus ugly as hell groovy riffs, ‘Centurion’s Demise’ is not to be slept on.
