Named after the legendary horror film director Lucio Fulci, the Italian Death Metal band Fulci are part of the extreme Metal scene since 2013 and have so far five full length albums and numerous split records. This new EP ‘Risorsero dalla Tomba e Fu…L’Apocalisse’ or ‘They Rose from the Tomb and It Was…The Apocalypse!’ is their latest offering and what you will find here are two tracks of horror inspired Death Metal.
The beginning is set by the short intro that gave the title of the EP and then ‘Paura che Uccide’ strikes with a slow and doomy heavy Death Metal sound. This is an oldschool track with heavy guitar riffs, some ominous guitar leads and deep deathly growls.
The second track is ‘Apoteosi del Mistero’ which is a cover of the Italian composer Fabio Frizzi, whose composition was originally included in the ‘City of the Living Dead’ movie soundtrack. Here you can hear eerie keyboard sounds and plenty of melody as well as the clean vocals of the guest vocalist Nate Garrett from the band Spirit Adrift, who adds gloomy doomy feeling to the song.
If you know Fulci from before then this new EP will be a pleasant surprise, having in mind that it has some new elements in Fulci’s music but their brutality and sinister atmospehere is still intact. If you are hearing about Fulci for the first time then you will not be mistaken if you check this record out and their previous offerings and get acquainted with one of the better Horror Death Metal bands out there.
