Chamber of Mirrors is a USBM solo project from California, created and entirely led by the musician Mortem. The project is known for its abrasive, feral, cold Black Metal, combining fast, chaotic riffing with a metallic production aesthetic and sparse but atmospheric synths.

Chamber of Mirrors has been active since 2022, the demo ‘Apocalyptic Dream’ and the debut full length ‘Shadow Kingdom’ both released in 2022. Another full-length ‘Moonlight Decay’ (2023) and the EP ‘Demonic Realm’ (2024) followed and were released at the time by Drakkar Productions.

Musically, Chamber of Mirrors dished out raw, violent USBM with cold, fast riffing; occasional synths used for atmosphere but never softening the aggression.  Metallic, abrasive production with fast, chaotic riffing though the structural chaos in some tracks can be too overwhelming at times. Influences are old Immortal, Watain, Lamp Of Murmuur, Sanguine Relic, Nightbringer, early Leviathan and even older Xasthur.

‘Tales of Blood’ is an all-out aural assault, a barrage of insane yet shifting blast beat drumming, waves of churning guitars/aggressive tremolo, hidden melodies, and controlled chaos and feral, insidious vocals. It’s harsh, cavernous, vile, atmospheric and violent. Only the Dungeon Synth influenced ‘Tales of Blood’ instrumental offers some reprieve. The album clocks out at a mere 31 minutes but offers a skullcrushing experience.

Another contender to the rusty USBM throne.  Fans of the genre really must check out this amazing release!
