Putred was birthed in 2020 Transylvania Romania, homeland soil shared with Vlad Tepes or Dracula if you prefer, seems suitable to me.

This is their third full length, having released their second album a year ago, so this is quick to the draw and unexpected so soon. This five piece combo plays a style of Old School Death Metal with striking results as it is midpaced with occasional gallops, low guttural growls, mixed with a few higher pitched shrieks for good measure, all done in their native language.

Atmosphere is a staple for the band whilst still being heavy as hell and there is great melodic guitar tone that is consistent throughout. The melody is one that attaches itself to your eardrums like a greedy maggot to a deceased brain, literally it crawls inside and makes itself at home so it can breed and grow. Truly infectious.

You will also hear a lot of standout bass, which at times takes centre stage, it is pronounced and helps drive the dark decaying mood this brings.

As is tradition with this band the last track is a cover rounding up one hell of an album and paying homage to older bands that are obviously influential to these Romanian Deathheads, this time round is Benidiction’s ‘Subconscious Terror’. Faithful to the original, but with a Putred stain.

All in all, I hope to hear where the guys take this next, with each album being consistently good and with each one having its own divine stench. Recommended for anyone who loves the vibe of a good old European b movie horror and for fans of bands like Grave, Asphyx, Autopsy and Fulci.
