The best way I can think to describe ‘Ordnance Obscenum; is it sounds like an alien war story told to you through Death Metal. The vocals even have this almost story telling delivery which I found very fitting. The lyrics are just as sci-fi as the song titles, and the music hits on a bunch of different levels without losing the cohesive feel of the album.
Morgued can be ripping through some fast Death/Grind type riffs and then suddenly land on a huge mid paced groove to just have you bobbing your head, and there’s even bits of Thrash, melodic guitar work, and a little Hardcore, all blended together nicely.
It’s not like you wouldn’t think it would get a little messy, but somehow Morgued pulled it off making the whole album feel every other direction at once. I also think it helps that the sci-fi theme isn’t just something you get by hearing the lyrics or seeing the cover art, because the opening synths make it seem like you’re already on another planet, and then once the guitars kick in, you’re like in an all out war, but with the more melodic bits of the album, it does have that trip to different parts of the same story feeling.
‘Ordnance Obscenum’ sounds like a Death Metal album that’s straight about aliens and war, and Morgued did a great job with it.
