With Putricid we go back to the days of dubbed cassettes, basement rehearsals, xeroxed flyers and all those elements which make the early 90s charismatic and nostalgic.
This Canadian Death Metal squad existed from 1989 ‘till 1994, first year as Putrefacted Cadaver, and released two demo cassettes, ‘Putrefacted Cadaver’ (1990) and ‘Suppuration’ (1992), which attracted attention in the local scene and thanks to the tape trading movement, got some recognition abroad as well.
On this compilation you will hear both demos in remastered form, with one new track added to, including founding members Jean-René Cloutier-Ménard and David Ouellet, which was recorded in 2021.
The Old School Death Metal is decent and has a common feeling of the early 90s demo days, combining up-tempo with mid-tempo riffs and passages, a bit like 90s Eternal Solstice for example. The new track is a bit more brutal than the old demo recordings, but also less enduring.
For those who remember the name Putricid and enjoyed the demos back in the days, or if you’re a 90s Death Metal demo collector in general, this is a fine document to hunt down. For others, I can imagine this could be release to think twice about.
