After the break-up of Lihhamon, singer/guitarist M. (here as BRSRKR) decided to try again with a different line-up. The exact reason for the predecessor’s quitting is unknown to me, but it will not be down to M/BRSRKR’s increasingly broadening musical mind. In fact, Wrahha sounds like more than a logical sequel to Lihhamon. With ‘Harbingers Of A Horrid Cleansing’, this trio gives a first convincing calling card.
With its three tracks in just over ten minutes, this demo is a short but very solid debut demo that pays full homage to the spirit of its musical precursor. For those not too familiar with Lihhamon, imagine a thoroughly primitive pummelling blend of Black Metal and Death Metal with a good dose of Grindcore to it. So, this new outfit too fits well into the Bestial Black/Death Metal niche and feels musically close to many of their contemporaries like OmegaVortex and Prehistoric Warcult. Wild and frenzied, hardly controlled chaos. A true vortex of ferocious riffs, thundering drums and beastly vocals. It may all be something we have heard 666 times before, but it is the sheer power and unfettered violence with which the music is hammered into your skull that does its magic here.
At the risk of drawing comparisons with Lihhamon a little too often, the sound on ‘Harbingers Of A Horrid Cleansing’ is slightly bleaker compared to that predecessor and it has a slightly more vicious and obvious Black Metal edge to it as well. It is also a little rawer than ‘Doctrine’ (Auto de Fe Prods/Nuclear War Now! Productions), Lihhamon’s only full-length album from 2016. Perhaps this has to do with the recordings, after all we are still dealing with a demo tape here, but it fits the music well and even adds an extra attractive red glow to the bloodthirsty character to the whole affair.
