Reverence to Paroxysm is a Death/Doom band from Mexico City, and as we know, bands from Mexico always do it way dirtier than the rest of the world. Take Mexico’s Disgorge, for example, they take Death/Goregrind to a much purer, filthier level than other bands.
After releasing two demos, Reverence to Paroxysm have now dropped their debut, ‘Lux Morte’. And goddamn, it sounds like they are tuned down to drop Z! It features one of the filthiest and heaviest sounds I have heard in a very long time.
Clocking in at 8 minutes and 19 seconds, the opening track, ‘Astray Descent’, bursts your eardrums and melts your eyes right out of their sockets. Meanwhile, ‘Burial Absolute’ features one of the sickest-sounding intros around, not necessarily in a gore way, but just incredibly sick in my opinion.
With six songs in total and a running time of just over 44 minutes, this is easily one of the best Death/Doom acts I’ve encountered in ages. Any new release from this band will be a blind buy for me.
Fun fact; 75% of these guys also play in a band called Castleumbra, which is definitely worth checking out as well!
