Few bands just exude a particular aura—those with a presence of audio terror both in visuals and in the band’s sound themselves. I’m sure many felt this when they saw and heard Venom’s releases for the first time. That moment when you see and hear Slayer’s ‘Reign In Blood’. There is just a malevolence present that I know many listeners had to take a step back and consider what they were getting themselves into. Not too many bands can do that in this jaded day and age. Nothing is new anymore, nothing is shocking in today’s world.
So in saying all this, I will say this, the latest from Adorior and their 3rd overall, give me a sense of dread in listening to their music. There is a chaotic, off-kilter mindset being put forth. Granted it’s not like those innocent early days, but still, to give me that feeling, even in a small way, I can really appreciate that. Take a step into their world, the cover art, their song titles, the merch, and also crucially and most importantly, the music itself.
If you take a bit of Destruction with Schmier on vocals and add some chaotic War Metal elements and a bit of dark Thrash in their sound you get an idea of what Adorior sounds like. Also as I mentioned these descriptors, there is still more that I can say or mention but at this point, you may need to step into the abyss and experience it for yourself. Numerous standouts and highlights can be mentioned but what would be first and foremost is the aura of the album itself. Vocalist Jaded Lungs presents to you a range of evil emotions and dark dynamics in her singing that just lend credence to the overall vibe and songwriting. Speaking of the songs, granted there is a predominant war metal approach about them, they are not a rambling disjointed mess. The guitars along with vocalist Jaded stamp that home. Wild Kerry King style solos abound. Production is good, I would prefer maybe a bit more bottom end, more bass, and a warmer sound to the drums.
If you are looking for a new injection of darkness and maybe a bit of malevolence in your daily ritual, it would not hurt you to look into this or any of their releases.
