So, do you need something to jumpstart your morning alongside your cup of coffee? If you need that bit of, get up and go may I suggest Excruciate 666. The band gives you a healthy dose of ‘Panzer’-era Marduk with bits of Immortal and Dark Funeral. There are also plenty of War Metal moments falling along the lines of Impiety.
For myself, I love bands that have this type of energy and attack some of the aforementioned bands are still in my listening repertoire. So with that being said I feel Excruciate 666 may fall just a tad bit short. I say this because the first half is a full-on assault and not till the latter portion that a bit more variation is interspersed into the songwriting. So the relentless pacing can maybe grate on some. When I mention the speed there is not too much variation in song dynamics.
There is a smattering of keyboard nuance that is heard but mainly in the last 3 songs that give thoughts of Hecate Enthroned, just not as gothic. It’s not a bad release by any means, plenty of auditory and visual vitriol to spew your way. So I feel some still look for this and may find a gold mine here.
One thing I do appreciate is that they have been around since 1994 with 2 members still at the core from that time. The imagery and aesthetic are all there for those who crave that. Production is on point and has the dry slightly trebly sound but it is not detracting at all.
Now granted this particular album came out in 2022, about time for a new release eh guys?
