Eternity – Funeral Mass

eternity – funeral mass

Info

Having been around for over 13 years now Germany’s Eternity have only just gotten round to releasing their second full length for Avantgarde Music aptly entitled ‘Funeral Mass’. Pure Black Metal through and through this absolutely fucking killer disk pushes out a sound that reeks of the early nineties scene, focusing all its attention on creating songs that are brilliantly constructed and feature riff after riff after riff of pure satanic glory.

Not even trying to original in any way, shape or form the opening title track instantly brings to mind ‘Panzerfaust’ era Darkthrone with the production and precision of Gorgoroth’s ‘Ad Majorem Sathanas Gloriam’, all sharp and potent enough to cut through wrists the world over. ‘The One Within All’ ups the tempo and the atmosphere stirring up a winter storm that will freeze you down to the bone, while the brilliantly dark riffing and black pulse of album highlight ‘Horncrowned Emperor’ unleashes the avalanche that never lets up until the last note of album closer ‘In Dimensions Of Pale Thorns’.

By constantly varying the pace and making sure that every song is able to stand out in its own right, Eternity have managed to create an album that although covering no new ground in terms of sound and aesthetic, is filled with a brutish sense of atmospheric otherworldliness that drips with every beat, riff and venomous vocal assault. This really is traditional Black Metal at its best.
