Appearing out of nowhere, without any preceding demo or EP, An-Xul dropped their self-titled debut onto the market. The main objective of this Italian band is to unite Black Metal with dark, occult themes, seamlessly blending atmosphere with an old-school approach while not avoiding modern touches.
Of course, the connection to Mortuary Drape is easily made, if only for the fact that their current drummer plays in An-Xul. Aside from the musical and thematic link to Mortuary Drape, the post-2000 Greek scene has also clearly served as an inspiration more than once.
Nothing groundbreaking, but a solid, enjoyable spin.
