Blood Grave have a decent grip on the filthy, old school Death Metal sound. There’s a good amount of chainsaw biting to the riffs and it will readily switch between crushing middle paced chunks and tremolo picked Thrash sections keeping the album moving without it becoming too light weight. There are sections which would remind me somewhat of early Death, particularly in the sharpness of the guitar work without getting too technical.
In the slower sections it takes more of an Obituary style stride to it, heavy, ugly, and intended to slam.
The drumming adds to that feel, never really settling down in one gear, making sure it is not just one wall of noise, especially as the songs do descend into slightly more dark sludgy zones. I also think it’s good they didn’t clean off the grime totally. The production retains more of that South American underground feel, without sacrificing the clarity of the guitars. When Blood Grave are able to switch between speed and groove while carrying that brutal atmosphere with it, is where this really excels.
This album is a great example of nasty and old school.
