Roman Saenko, a famous name linked to Drudkh, Hate Forest, Blood of Kingu, the underrated Precambrian and Rattenfänger, and his latest project Bras d’Honneur, still has plenty of time for a project called Windswept.

Together with K. and V., lieutenants who often join him on his musical path, Windswept belongs to the typical Slavonic Black Metal category. With those recognisable riffs, melodies, and song arrangements, you could call it an unpolished Drudkh, reminiscent of the era of ‘Eternal Turn of the Wheel’, and ‘A Furrow Cut Short’, with a hint of ‘Handful of Stars’, thrown in at times.

But calling it an unnecessary Drudkh clone goes way too far; all his projects have too much of their own identity for that, even if a common thread is easy to spot.

On this EP, Wintherr from Darkspace and Paysage d’Hiver, alongside Meilenwald (The Ruins of Beverast, Truppensturm, and ex-Nagelfar) lend their voices to Windswept, with the latter also writing the lyrics for the final track ‘Jedes Todes Lohn’, which lasts over ten minutes.

All in all, a thoroughly EP and recommended listening for anyone who likes to keep up with Saenko’s musical career.
