A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

I picked up this album at the gig in Roermond, where they were playing with Vital Remains, Vader, and Infernal Mäjesty…Chris Bailey was so utterly bladdered he could only remain upright by clinging onto the microphone stand. And it was there that I had the chance to hear two new tracks, which immediately grabbed my attention as they were a touch faster and shorter than those on ‘Eternal’.

This is now their fifth full-length album, but Brett Hoffman sings on the first three, and bassist Jason Blachowicz takes over on the latter two. The former had more of a Thrash-infused vocal style, whereas Jason employs a proper Death grunt.

Upon getting home, I saw that they’d crammed 13 tracks into roughly 42 minutes. So, most of the numbers aren’t particularly lengthy, but that doesn’t bother you in the slightest because within five seconds your head is already rotating so vigorously that you’ll be chuffed to bits if it stays attached for the entire album! They’ve even penned a track about the film Seven, and it’s very simply titled ‘VII’.

If you’re a fan of unadulterated Death Metal, this album deserves pride of place in your collection.
