Putrisect have been kickin’ since 2013; they are not a new act still cutting their teeth. In fact this self titled EP very clearly sounds like a band that knows exactly the brand of misery they intend to distribute. You absolutely can’t miss how damn militaristic and crushing the overall experience feels.
The riffs here are the walking pace of a tank during those mid temp parts while also dragging the tempo to something so much heaver it would surely cause a cavern collapse. With it more the experience of being slowly crushed by a steamroller than consumed.
While there is certainly some Spectral Voice similarities in the EP’s bleak, heavy, slower tempo, I believe I hear a more clear Phrenelith resemblance on the mid album density, marching riffs, and relentlessly driving feel. Still Putrisect have managed to carve their own niche as well, blending the punishing, heavier doom parts with faster, more attacking portions.
This EP has that foul atmosphere without it overwhelming any of the songs and the black melodies lend more dimension to these otherwise straight forward bangers that I feel could just blast through any given object. The band really delivers a certain tense, unsettling feel even when things slow down. I had seen mention of the band around more lately and now that I’ve heard the EP, I understand why. Putrisect seem to have gotten it just right and this is some truly heavy material.
