The Berserk influence is possibly what most identifies ‘Godhand’. Fleshcrave built the entire EP in this style of horror, doom, and sacrifice, backing up the thematics with a very competent mix of ’90s style Death Metal and more angular Death/Thrash riffs.
The songs alternate between high speed direct assaulting and somewhat thicker groove sections with always the necessary push from the drums. There are points reminiscent of Death, Malevolent Creation and Deicide, the majority stemming from slightly more technical riffs, sudden changeups in tempo and the blend between a raw aggressive push on the guitars and a slightly more varied feel that we see in them and not always caveman Death Metal.
The tracks didn’t really stand out in any major way, but that is not to say that this is a weak EP. ‘Godhand’ is well constructed, the production remains clear without being too polished and the band can work a song quite competently. It receives bonus points with some originality thanks to its theming.
The one thing that is clear from this EP is it doesn’t have that “wow” factor, but that is easy to overlook in tracks you can still thoroughly enjoy in its familiarities of being one release among many of that style. ‘Godhand’ can be described as a great EP with good musicianship that could be used further.
