It is always a good thing when I have to review an album coming from my home country Bulgaria and this is what we have here: a fresh new Bulgarian Goregrind/Death Metal band. Necromonger strikes the world with their debut full length ‘Emanation of the Dying Perception’ released via the mighty Spanish label Xtreem Music, the company of Avulsed’s frontman Dave Rotten.
The three necromongering guys are no beginners by any means, all of them are or have been active in other bands: Quill Rat on drums is also playing in Concrete, one very prolific Death Metal act with a new album from 2026 and Aggrogrinder (bass/guitars) plus Pigman (vocals) were part of the Goregrind project F.B.I. (Fecal Body Incorporated). So what is it they are doing with Necromonger?
Well, they do a rhythmic and quite dark Goregrind mixed with brutal Death Metal moments. Predominantly they have mid-tempo rhythm as in the opener ‘Beyond the Pleasure Principle’ guitar riffs as heavy as a ton of zombies and the gurgling vocals of Pigman. Unlike many other Goregrind bands, Necromonger don’t rely on lightning-fast blastbeats, they have much more groovy rhythms like in ‘Dissection of Consciousness’. Think something in the vein of the legendary CBT (Cock and Ball Torture) and you will get an idea what it sounds like. Some tracks like ‘Meconium Eater’ and ‘Extract of Rotting Fetus’ are short and pummeling while others like the bonus track in the CD version, the instrumental ‘Necromonger’ are over nine minutes long. ‘Confessions of a Dead Poet’ offers double vocal attack in the vein of Carcass: a higher screaming vocal mixed with the main gurgling. So Necromonger are able to offer an admirable dose of variety in their Goregrind palette.
The sound production is raw but this doesn’t prevent the listener from enjoying ‘Emanation of Dying Perception’. The album comes in vinyl, CD and cassette format with different bonus tracks on each release. Necromonger doesn’t offer anything new but what they do they do it really well.
‘Emanation of the Dying Perception’ is one very promising debut album and only time will tell how far those guys can go but if you are into Goregrind then Necromonger definitely is a must hear. Check them out and support the true underground music.
