Revolting – Night of the Horrid

revolting – night of the horrid

Info

Sometimes it seems like we’re just kidding around. “Another Rogga album” or something similar. And let’s be honest, much of what the man releases is discussed on VM-Underground, and since we’ve been at it since 1997, a lot has been discussed over the years. And yes, generally the overall conclusion always lingers on “heard it before,” “sounds like another project,” or “focus on quality, not quantity.” Not that Rogga is going to listen to us, and we’re the last ones to expect him to take a word of ours seriously, but if 20 more albums come out of his hands this year, there’s a pretty good chance we’ll start repeating ourselves too.

As is known, with Revolting, Rogga focuses more on melody and leads than with, say, Paganizer and Ribspreader, where groove reigns supreme within Old School Swedish Death Metal. Let’s say it’s like Dismember’s ‘Massive Killing Capacity’. And as is traditionally the case, the album starts with a lead and the main melody riff. And as is traditionally the case, you hear nothing new and it won’t be mentioned in a “name 3 new Swedish Death Metal albums that will blow your socks off” discussion.

But it’s also not irritating, it comes on and you listen to the album. Where one person would interpret the term “background music” as negative, I want to give it a positive spin due to the aforementioned arguments.

Revolting, besides being predictable, is also a constant factor, and if you have the previous 2 albums in your collection, then ‘Night of the Horrid’ is an addition that won’t be out of place.
