Funeral Vomit – Funeral Vomit [EP / Re-Release]

funeral vomit – funeral vomit [ep / re-release]

Info

Before the Xtreem Music-released ‘Monumental Putrescence’ from late December last year, the Colombians of Funeral Vomit released a demo, two splits and a self-titled EP. That EP was initially released in Spring 2022 by two different labels on two different CD versions, but apparently the demand was high enough for several re-releases to appear over the last two years. The latest in that series is brought to us by the band’s new home, Xtreem Music. In addition to another CD version we are now also offered a vinyl edition, and obviously, Xtreem Music might be able to bring this EP to a slightly wider audience.

Yet, if you just started to listen to the band with ‘Monumental Putrescence’: Funeral Vomit has changed practically nothing when compared to this preceding self-titled EP. Basically ever since the band’s inception in 2020, Funeral Vomit has been set out to hurl some vile and vulgar Black/Death Metal into the world. Free of any unnecessary bells and whistles, the band went straight to the core of heavy grinding Black/Death Metal inspired by the likes of Blasphemy, Proclamation, Imprecation and Autopsy.

Death Metal with an obvious nod to the Bestial kind of Black Metal to it and with a healthy dose of chaos-worshipping wildness. Subsequently, this will be fodder for those who are attracted to the unrefined regions of the metallic spectrum. And, as opposed to ‘Monumental Putrescence’ this EP sounds a bit wilder as well as a bit more rough around the edges. Not that the full-length album was all that polished, on the contrary, but these earlier recordings clearly shows the band in a more crude form.

In addition to the regular EP tracks, we are also served with two live tracks, one of which is a Mayhem cover (‘Deathcrush’). It is clear that in a live setting the band has a bit more of a grinding Death Metal sound, not all too far from the earliest Mortician recordings. Not all versions of ‘Funeral Vomit’ do have the same “bonus tracks”, whether this is reason enough to pick up another version of this EP is the question, but if you haven’t been able to get your hands on it before, this is quite the opportunity.
