Blazemth – The Return of Lucifer

blazemth – the return of lucifer

Info

Blazemth is a long running Spanish Black Metal band that spawned in 1993 from the ashes of Rotten Flesh. The band went on hiatus from 1997 to 2017 and ‘The Return Of Lucifer’ is the first full-length after numerous demo’s and EP’s. The debut came out in 2022 on Xtreem Music and was mastered by Dan Swanö at the infamous Unisound Studios.

Blazemth is an old band and as much is evident from their sound. The atmosphere harkens back to the heydays of old Darkthrone, Watain and Emperor but it bears most similarities with old Satyricon. Thus this is Black Metal mixed with hints of dark folk music. ‘The Return Of Lucifer’ is a coherent musical journey that is best enjoyed front to back, as a good album must.

Another noteworthy aspect is the album’s consistency. All songs are of high quality and rage on in similar fashion. Blazemth had a clear vision and managed to never stray from it for a moment. The drums operate almost non-stop at high intensity, but not in exaggerated speed. The true carriers of the music are, of course, the guitars. Riffs seem to flow seamlessly together to form a strong unity within the songs without getting boring. Soaring above the chaos beneath is a rasping and barking vocalist that has a very aggressive and yet understandable gruff.

‘The Return Of Lucifer’ is Blazemth first real return to form since their two EP’s from the nineties. Time has been kind and has allowed the band to create an album that is almost flawless in its execution. The Spaniards had a vision for this album and have succeeded in reaching it. For those who can’t get enough of old (Norse) Black Metal, this is an album that’ll surely satisfy the unholy needs.
