A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

Mancuerda from The Hague, South Holland in the Netherlands started out their life in the year 2019 but actually took until now, July 7th in 2023, to put out their debut recording with the ‘Through Skin, Muscle & Bone’ EP that we are discussing here. It’s four tracks, with just over fifteen minutes of Old School Death Metal disgusting goodness for us all to behold.

What Mancuerda have achieved with the ‘Through Skin, Muscle & Bone’ EP is a gore filled joyride of Old School Death Metal sure to please your horror loving psyche and blood loving soul. What does this joyride sound like though? Well it sounds like a rather raw but perfect intersection between the bands Asphyx and Incantation with splashes of good ol’ Black Sabbath here and there. Truly a good mix for a band starting out on their debut. Especially considering they keep it raw and filthy, the way it should be.

So, yeah, ‘Through Skin, Muscle & Bone’ may not be any reinvention or redefinition of the genre but that’s not what it is supposed to be. No this is a gloriously gore filled joyride through Old School Death Metal the way it should be. Raw, primitive and just downright solid, well written and good. Pretty damn good.
