Cerebrum Necrosis’s ‘Demo 2026’ is every bit of grimey, like this band was excavated from a dirt cellar and immediately thrust onto a tape. The recordings are murky, the guitar riffs are crude, and the vocals are mired in a kind of low, bog like tone that melts along with the other instrumentation. The lo-fidelity in this recording works pretty well to the demo’s advantage though.
There’s kind of a ghoulish fog settling over all the tracks in this, and the band doesn’t feel particularly driven to over embellish things here.
The riffs are all simple, heavy, bottom dwelling riffs and there’s lot there to appreciate from the kind of sunken vocals. Even then, it really feels like a band who is still trying stuff out on this one; I would have liked more interesting riffs, perhaps a less obscure guitar sound. But really, they let the vibe carry them throughout all four tracks here.
All things considered, there’s a solid foundation for 12 minutes of recording and with work, Cerebrum Necrosis will surely prove the heaviness of them.
