VHS – I Heard They Suck…Blood

vhs – i heard they suck…blood

Info

VHS, horror Death/Thrash/Punk/Grind trio continuously going against the grain with fifth LP “I Heard They Suck…Blood”. Previous LP’s had themes of sci-fi /space realm, toxic waste, & sea monsters, this time bloodsucking vampires is focal point.

Numerous samples ranging from 80s/90s cult classics like The Lost Boys, Fright Night to Krusty from The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror IX episode on “Horror of Dracula”. Hell, the eerie organ intro “Vampiric Heboglobin Suckers” has five segments. Notable for their innovative unique twists of multifaceted genre styles that leave a little pep in your step.

Cover by Creepy Jason, animated depiction from The Lost Boys color scheme, female resilient form of Severen’s (Near Dark) outfit.

Eleven tracks, smidge over thirty three minutes, by far best material; refined production, punctilious placement of samples either begin or concluding of track, features two guest vocalists Trevor Strnad & Dave Ingram whom both have made previous album appearances as well as Eric Pfeifer with his spotlight saxophone solo on “The Frog Brothers”. They go above and beyond to integrate all the best elements as well as expand outside the predictable cliche metal realm to put out some balls to the wall goodness.

Aside from intro & closer “Black Mass” inst. pieces, majority of this album is upbeat, punk driven, dual bellow/shrill cadences harmonizing with the catchy riffs displayed, significant on “Fake Blood & Push Up Bras”, “Horror of Dracula”, & “Getting The Gang Back Together”.

Some tracks that stood out are “What Do You Do?”, love the bass lines highlighted, substantial groove mixed with crossover portions, overall shifting your attention. “A Town Called Purgatory”, specifically the guitar riff reminiscent of a ZZ Top tune makes me happy.

“Martin, Martin”, different ambience, doomy composition, sample from Martin The Blood Lover (‘76), teetering from trudging to explosive measures & the haunting pitch in the vocals gives goosebumps.

Bless this album. (Tori Belle)
