Túmulo, this isn’t the band from Brazil that delivered the unsung classic ‘Triumph of Hell’ in 2016, the one that was heavily influenced by Hellhammer. No, this Túmulo is from Zürich, Switzerland and previously released their ‘Cristo Demente’ demo in 2023, prior to their debut. They have been active since 2022, known for performing entirely in Portuguese and channeling the feral spirit of early Brazilian Extreme Metal.
They started as a tribute Band to Sarcofago’s ‘INRI‘, yet their Influences became a bit wider: besides the Brazilian classics like Mutilator, Mystifier, Sepultura, Sextrash, Sarcofago, Impurity, Dorsal Atlantica, Holocausto, Chakal and so on Túmulo are heavily influenced by early Rotting Christ, Onslaught, very old Slayer, early Samael, Bathory, Celtic Frost, Beherit and Blasphemy.
Or according to their Caverna Abismal Records label from Portugal: “Forged in Switzerland yet possessed by the ghosts of Brazil’s ’80s underground… a declaration of contempt for modern trends — raw, violent, and utterly possessed. No polish. No pretense. Just death.”
As said; heavily influenced by the legendary Brazilian scene of old, Túmulo hack and grind their way through undiluted 1980ies Black/Thrash/Speed Metal of old, including a blunt and heavy Brazilian/South American sound with all the bells and whistles.
This isn’t just a carbon copy of the above-mentioned bands, nor a mere rip off: Túmulo are capable of delivering catchy Metal the old way as can be heard on tracks like ‘Destruição’, ‘Vida Longa aos Meus Inimigos’ or ‘Deus Contra Todos’.
Rugged belched vocals that drip with satanic glee, thundering drums, a rattling bass and chainsaw guitars, it’s all there and delivers the goods in an onslaught of over 33 minutes.
The trio consisting of Death Vomit (bass), Forhammer (drums) and Miasma (vocals / guitars) totally nail it with ‘Evangelho do Canhoto’ and fans of the genre don’t need to think twice.
