A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

Info

I am unable to give you a proper introduction about this German Permafrost, as I just can’t seem to find any decent information and I was not aware of this band before. But the music isn’t as bad as you might expect from a German black metal band that is not possible to track down through whatever way. It might be that German black metal is slowly but surely leaving their supposititious position by releasing more quality than we are used to from this country.

Christhunt Productions is a label that have been promoting German black metal (and, with Nachtfalke, also pagan black metal) since many years. And they have been releasing quite some interesting albums lately. Stuff like Heimdalls Wacht, Nervengas Krater and now this Permafrost they are slowly but surely putting Germany back on the map, fighting against its wrong reputation caused by bands like Mystic Circle. Anyway, this Permafrost sounds pretty German without sound cheesy or strange, this is still no high-flyer or anything renewing but it is far from a boring ride either. And you will see, that it is with bands like this Permafrost (the name is a bit dull though) that things will change for the better. Mixing all kinds of Nordic black metal (including Burzum like vocals) and up-tempo Eastern-European black metal terror they come up with something far from original but definitely listenable. The easier-going passages that reminds on a less depressive Forgotten Tomb are pretty damn good.

Though I was unable to track anything down that could supply any information about earlier recordings like demo tapes I think this is their debut, which is far from disappointing. I am looking forward to a follow-up for this “Pervers & Geisteskrank”.
