This album is pretty disgusting, but within all that gore there are actually more nasty riffs than you might expect. Impending Rot” take those wet, down right guttural vocals you’d associate with early Goregrind, and fit them over some seriously thick old school Death Metal.
It’s the guitar tone that probably attracted me to this in the first place. That chainsaw buzz is solidly attuned to that early Swedish Death Metal sound, which I hear a lot of Entombed and Carnage. There’s all the speed that implies, but I really enjoy the moments when the band slow down the blasting to give those riffs a moment to expand. Certain parts seem to take on a really sick groove that slow everything down even more, sort of flirting with Death/Doom for a second before getting everything moving again.
And then the vocals, which sound like they’re coming from a sewer underground. They’re thick, pitch shifted and filthy. I hear more of the early Carcass side of things, and it helps give the album its Goregrind identity without completely consuming it.
Clocking in at just under 20 minutes, ‘Anatomical Discorporated Aberration’ doesn’t over stay its welcome. It amounts to a brief collision of early Goregrind nastiness and chainsaw heavy OSDM, with enough groove and slower moments that it isn’t just 20 minutes of sheer blasting. Disgusting, gross and enough riffs to make you puke.
