Abhorrent Execration is a French underground Black/Death Metal duo from Bordeaux, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, formed in 2022. The band consists of RP (vocals and bass) and OG (drums), and operates independently without a current record label. Their sound draws heavily from old-school Death Metal, War Metal, and primitive Black/Death traditions.

In an interview with VM-Underground, drummer OG explained that the project emerged after he and RP had previously played together in Putrefiance. The pair began writing material in a deliberately raw and primitive manner, aiming to capture the spirit of early Extreme Metal rather than pursuing technicality or polished modern production. Their influences include classic acts such as Bolt Thrower, Incantation, Profanatica, Carcass, and Cannibal Corpse, alongside contemporary underground bands and the South American Black/Death scene.

Abhorrent Execration’s music is described as a savage blend of primitive Death Metal and Black Metal, evoking the atmosphere of early Incantation, Pungent Stench, and Bolt Thrower while maintaining a filthy, uncompromising underground aesthetic. VM-Underground characterized the band as delivering punishing doses of raw, visceral Black/Death Metal and praised their commitment to ancient brutality over modern trends.

‘Malicious Eternal’ is their latest release. It emerges as the moment when Abhorrent Execration fully consolidates the vision they have been pursuing since their formation. The French duo’s earlier recordings already displayed an obvious devotion to the primitive Black/Death Metal underground, but this four-track EP feels like the point where intent and execution finally become one. Across its brief but destructive seventeen-minute running time, ‘Malicious Eternal’ unleashes a barrage of cavernous bass-driven warfare, chaotic Black/Death aggression, and sepulchral atmosphere without ever lapsing into aimless brutality. Operating without a guitarist, Abhorrent Execration continues to build its attack around rumbling bass lines, martial drumming, and bestial vocal devastation, carving out a sound that recalls the ancient spirits of Blasphemy, Beherit, Grave Upheaval, and Necromantia while refusing to become a mere exercise in nostalgia. The absence of guitars actually strengthens the record’s identity, allowing the dense low-end to assume an almost oppressive physical presence. What truly distinguishes this EP from the band’s earlier output is the sense of maturity and cohesion. The songs no longer feel like isolated eruptions of violence, but parts of a unified campaign.

The production remains raw and uncompromising, yet possesses enough weight and clarity to enhance every crushing riff and percussive assault. Slow, doom-laden passages seep from the speakers with a suffocating sense of menace before giving way to savage bursts of warlike ferocity, creating a dynamic ebb and flow that prevents the material from becoming homogeneous. ‘Siege of the Living’, ‘Voidborn Disgrace’, ‘War Psalm’, and the title track form a compact sequence of relentless hostility, each composition designed as another strike in a campaign of total sonic annihilation. Rather than chasing speed for its own sake, the band understands the power of pacing, allowing moments of ominous tension to magnify the impact of the ensuing detonations. The result is a work that feels darker, heavier, and more confident than anything the duo has previously released.

For devotees of primal Black/Death Metal, ‘Malicious Eternal’ is an impressive statement of intent. It captures the ancient brutality that inspired generations of underground extremists while demonstrating clear artistic growth from a band rapidly coming into its own. Short, savage, and immensely satisfying, this EP stands as Abhorrent Execration’s strongest release to date: a declaration that this Bordeaux duo is no longer merely paying tribute to the old gods of death and blasphemy, but beginning to earn a place among their most worthy descendants.

For listeners who enjoy Autopsy, Archgoat, Incantation, Pungent Stench’s earliest work, Blasphemy, Repulsion, or early Bolt Thrower, Abhorrent Execration occupies a similar territory: primitive, hostile, riff-driven Extreme Metal steeped in death, Death/Doom, and occult darkness.
