Formed in 2013 in Wolfsburg, Germany, Cryptic Brood are a trio (Steffen Brandes – drums/vocals,Michael Lehner – guitars/vocals and Dennis Butzke – bass/vocals) who have one demo, two split releases and this EP titled “Wormhead” in their discography. This EP offers four tracks of oldschool doom/death metal with raw sound. The three guys in Cryptic Brood are doing vocals and this makes the songs much more varied than the typical death/doom release. There are fast passages combined with painfully slow moments, there is a cover of Suffocation’s “Infecting the Crypts” and the title track “Wormhead” may be a favorite in live gigs with its repeating chant “Wormhead….”. Not a bad release from Xtreem Music and hopefully there will be a full-length album soon. If you are into oldschool death/doom metal then check this out. (Zvetan)
