Warslaughter – Autocombustión

warslaughter – autocombustión

Info

After two demos and a full-length album in about three years the band decided to throw in the towel somewhere in 2023. Without knowing the exact reasons for their initial quitting, apparently there was a sudden change of mind as Warslaughter reappeared somewhere during the first half of 2024. The anonymous Spanish entity doesn’t waste time either, as within no time it returns with this second album, ‘Autocombustión’.

With the band’s first recording, the ‘Prácticas Antropofágicas’ demo from 2021 was an extremely dark and rough affair that conveyed a certain (very) early 90’s Black Metal ambiance. Hardly listenable for those used to the slick and gentle sounding Black Metal of today. While you could’ve thought that this was merely a demo recording, you were proven wrong with the band’s debut album, ‘Autofagia’, as that was an equally sinister and exercise in Bestial Black/Death.

This is clearly Warslaughter’s aimed niche as, after the short hiatus, they just continue what they have been doing before. So, yes, ‘Autocombustión’ is a logical continuation of what the band has released before, perhaps the good and well-versed listener will hear that this latest work sounds a touch less dark and thus has a somewhat clearer Bestial/War Black/Death Metal signature. But this still remains material that seems only suitable for those who actually manage to dig it up, after all, this will not be next to the latest Watain album in the nearest Virgin Megastore.

Musically, this does have all the elements that the genre more or less requires; the grinding guitars, the battering drums, the shrieking “leads” and roaring vocals: the overall picture is complete. However, what makes Warslaughter interesting and still gives them a somewhat recognisable profile is that stodgy sound; you either love it or you don’t.
