Presented in chronological order, ‘World War V’ is a compilation of the demos and four EPs that Canadian act Kiloton amassed over the last year or so. 37 songs, a perfect overview of the evolution of the band. Or in this case, an ugly statement of sonic torture without compromise.
Noise has been an instrumental part of the band’s sound, and such is clear from the very earliest beginnings. A wall of bass, drums and vocals is pretty much all that can be discerned on the majority of the demos. As the releases progress, the sound becomes a little less dank and muffled, but the infusion of pure Noise is always audible and built further into full-fledged Power Electronics territory on the last songs. But this escalation into Electronics feels natural, as the bestial mix of Black and Death Metal is similarly taken further into extremity as the release progresses. Rattling drums, roaring vocals and a bass-heavy pummeling with minimal variation and maximum violence. Being able to hear these EPs in a row now, it’s all the more clear that this seems to have been a purposeful escalation within the frame of the quartet of EPs ‘War’, ‘Gears’, ‘Heart’ and ‘C4H8Cl2S’.
‘World War V’ is a volatile mixture of utter violence with zero room for subtlety. The blend of Noise and bestial Black/ Death Metal is crude, suffocating and overwhelming, and obviously not for the casual listener. Filthy degenerates, line up for some sonic barbarity.
