A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

On the band’s previously released two demos and full-length albums Warslaughter already showed what they were made of. The Spaniards follow much of the country’s tradition in unrelenting Blackened Death Metal in the true chaos-ridden fashion. But while Proclamation is dead and buried and Teitanblood is not overly active, Warslaughter is filling the gaps, quenching our thirst for primal Spanish savagery.

This new EP, released through the impressively active Profaner Records, clocks in well under twenty minutes and delivers another slap in the face. The band’s thunderous blend of Black/Death comes wrapped in a murky and almost-rehearsal production, adding much to the ambiance of the music. In the process, consciously or not, it strongly reminds of the earliest pre-album recordings of Teitanblood. The five tracks, including an intro and outro, are just a logical continuation of what Warslaughter already served us earlier, a fitting successor of the ‘Autocombustión’-album, that saw its release in the early months of this year. And just as ‘Autocombustión’ did feel very aptly titled, so does this new EP, with each successive release the band feels to be more deadly.

Not quite the easiest sort of music to swallow, the smothering character of the music, even in the slower parts, makes ‘Exacerbación’ an EP for advanced listeners. Just like the band’s previous efforts: stuff for the trained ear and the true connoisseur of the most depraved and rotten Death Metal. If you consider yourself one of those, then this is a real treat.
