Torturer’s Lobby is a Tampa, Florida–based extreme metal band formed around 2021, mixing old‑school Black, Death, Thrash, and Punk influences; they released their full‑length ‘Deadened Nerves’ in 2024 after a string of demos, rehearsal tapes, and ‘the Man in Zugzwang’ EP. We at VM-Underground shamefully missed out on this release.
Their sound can be described as a raw, aggressive blend of old‑school proto Black Metal, Death Metal, Thrash and Punk, emphasizing frantic riffing, urgency, and a punk‑raw aesthetic. And they do this well.
The music harks back to an era where Thrash and Death Metal were beginning to intertwine and reminds of old Sepultura, Metal Onslaught, Mace and Massacra, roaring like a pitbull on steroids and biting its way through everything. The entire album is a blood splattered mosh pit. When they take a breather from the breakneck speed, the music becomes even more menacing, as can be heard on ‘Humanity’s Husk’.
‘Deadened Nerves’ blasts you so hard in the face you end up wondering what the fuck just decked you. It’s vile, fast, chaotic, catchy. The bone hard production is likened to classic Death Metal: emphasizing horror‑tinged themes and punk urgency…
I can see why Caligari Records signed this band. I’m a sucker for this skull crushing music. And all fans of über-rabid Metal should give this album a listen.
