Prehistoric War Cult / Secret Tongues – Sinister Congregation IV [Split]

prehistoric war cult / secret tongues – sinister congregation iv [split]

Info

A barbaric new split release was unleashed earlier this year by Kellerassel Records, limited to just 77 copies. And early next year will see a 7″ vinyl version come out through Fucking Kill Records. Osnabruck trio Prehistoric War Cult open this savage display of vulgarity with ‘Unto the Ancient Streams of Mist and Slumber’, a raw slab of spite and aggression that blast-beats forth before grinding to a halt and then rising to an ill-fated crescendo through  darkened guitar leads and serpentine whispers. This track has everything; insanity inducing speed, ominous creeping melody and catchy, and Death Metal influenced bass lead heavy Black Metal rhythm. Following on from this PWC bash out a cover of Sarcofago’s Deathrash, played in its true belligerent barbaric glory and bowing out of this release with a shriek.

Fellow German one man Black/Doom project Secret Tongues then offers up ‘Odd Apparitions at the Tumulus’, five minutes of bass heavy lo-fi grimness that flicks between unyielding hostility and the rat-a-tat of simple drum tones and savage bass leads. Nowhere near as powerful or as cohesive as Prehistoric War Cult, Secret Tongues still has its bleak nocturnal charms and some of the bass  tone melodies are interesting to say the least.
