‘Eternal Death’ rests comfortably in that unsightly murky void between Black Metal and Death Metal.
The Death Metal elements provided the heft and grunginess that makes up most of this record while Black Metal contributions add the bleak atmosphere and low, gnarly vocal barks. The vocals aren’t massive or in your face, but fit the dirtier atmosphere of this record quite well.
The issue I have is the production. Everything sounds really squashed to the bone and by the consequence, the instruments don’t do as much of their potential as they should; the riffs are all there but not nearly as packed with punch and separation that you might want out of something so filthy sounding. At times this feels totally flattened instead of carving its place deeper.
That said, atmosphere is not what this thing lacks by any means as there’s raw aggression to be heard all across the album that comes along well with the stylistic blend; it definitely holds a raw aggressive posture that isn’t quite one sided.
A solid underground record with good ideas that suffers a bit more impact from what could’ve been achieved in terms of separation and impact.
