At the Inferno festival 2003 Roger aka Nattefrost gave me the promo from his new band called…Nattefrost. Already from some friends from Oslo I had heard a lot of very positive things about this new band. ‘Blood and Vomit’ should be the best Black Metal album in a long time, so I was very curious about this promo.
When I first heard this CD, I was overwhelmed by the negativity which surrounds this album. Already after the first listen, this album stuck in my mind. And it is so great that since the first listening in April, I keep on playing this album almost daily. At first, ‘Blood and Vomit’ was supposed to be released on September 11th, but after several delays, the final release date will be in February next year. And it is definitely worth the wait because ‘Blood and Vomit’ is indeed the best Black Metal album of the year, maybe even of the last couple of years!
The album starts with a spoken intro with some kind of church choir in the background, but all of a sudden, this peaceful intro is interfered with by the song ‘Ancient Devil Worshipping’. Hateful Black Metal destroyed the peaceful moments, and hell has opened and unleashed the most evil, hateful music ever made on this rotten planet. Musically, Nattefrost can be compared to Roger’s other bands, Carpathian Forest and World Destroyer, although Nattefrost is the most negative band among them. Roger himself is responsible for all instruments and vocals, although Vrangsinn (Carpathian Forest, Hatepulse, World Destroyer), Kulde (Hatepulse and World Destroyer), and Nordavind (ex-Carpathian Forest) do some backing vocals as well.
The second song, ‘Sluts of Evil’, is one of the highlights on the album with great lyrics; “Sluts of hell, cunts of evil, sluts of hell, shut up bitch I’m in command”. This song has some kind of Black Metal rock & roll vibe over it with a great-sounding rolling bass. The next song, ‘Satanic Victory’, could easily have been a World Destroyer song; it has the same kind of atmosphere.
I won’t go deeper into the other songs separately because it is clear that every self-respecting Black Metal fan out there should buy this pitch-black metal album. It will be the most negative, dark, evil, hate-filled, misanthropic, satanic Black Metal album of 2004!
By the way, this Christmas, Nattefrost will record their next album already, which will be called ‘Terrorist’. But first, make sure you get hold of ‘Blood and Vomit’!
