A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

Info

This Mexican band are definitely different from the ongoing, rather crappy, grindcore scene over there. The cover of this 7” EP already shows they are digging from the old school death metal scene from the late 80’s and early 90’s. Loads of skulls, bones and unidentifiable whatevers are the icing of the cake.

They are basically using the best of both the Swedish scene from the earliest heydays and the American evil death metal. This means they are a bit of old Eucharist, Unanimated, Gorement and Angelcorpse, Immolation, Autopsy old Morbid Angel and Incantation. So, old school death metal with loads of atmosphere and good leads yet with enough hints of groove and technical know-how. Both songs (not counting the rather unnecessary intro) definitely have something to offer and have a good mid-tempo (though ‘Darkened Wrath’ is a bit more uptempo) pace that suits for a good live show as well.

Bands like Denial, alongside peers like Nominon, get the old school not-so-modern death metal back on the map and it is rather good to see that these guys are getting more attention. And of course, this suits best on vinyl. Blood Harvest always stood for high quality releases on black wax, you most likely know where to find this…
