The German duo Tiwaz and Valfor are clearly no strangers to hard work, given their extensive output of ten releases in total since 2019. They weren’t idle during the preceding years either, racking up thirteen releases between 2007 and 2017.

Both gentlemen also play in Eisenkult, and Valfor is involved with Atronos, Mavorim, and has Totenwache to his name; for the observant listener, there is an obvious Purity Through Fire connection within Asenheim. Even so, Asenheim’s work is released through Dominance of Darkness Records.

Musically, Asenheim’s Black Metal sits somewhere between Epic and Pagan/Folk-style Black Metal, where melody prevails over aggression. The occasional use of synthesiser brass provides a kind of medieval or folk-like festivity, which largely defines the atmosphere on ‘Wolkenbrecher’.

Asenheim won’t be leading the campaign for ‘Make Black Metal Hate Again’, but if a more upbeat, and forgive me for using the following word, cheerful version of Heimdalls Wacht’s style sounds appealing, you should give ‘Wolkenbrecher’ a shot.
