We have reviewed Apes of God before, their ‘Procession of Death’, EP to be precise, but I wasn’t quite aware of what happened with the band, and especially their vocalist, after that release. It appears César Canales was shot on stage during an Apes of God gig in their homeland El Salvador. The initial reaction of the band was to call it quits after that event, but they eventually reconsidered.
It took two years before Aldair Mejia stepped behind the microphone, with the second album named ‘En el recinto de la tempestad’, as the result. As on the previously mentioned EP, Apes of God continues with Death/Thrash that is rooted in the 90s. It sounds familiar, as in they managed to do exactly what they aimed for.
Quality-wise, I am not entirely impressed, since too few riffs or melodies really stick after a few listens. In that respect, the ‘Procession of Death’, EP made a stronger impression.
