A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

At the end of 2023 Annihilation Cult came up with a digital demo of just over 15 minutes of merciless Black/Death Metal savagery in the right Revenge/Conqueror fashion. Even if the black/red aesthetics of the promo cover and the logo didn’t already give away the band’s intentions, then at least the closing Von cover song did. Now, just over a year later the trio returns with a full-length to finish what they started some months earlier…

This self-titled debut album fits seamlessly with what the band did on their digital demo, the only difference is that the overall production feels a little sharper, emphasizing the Black Metal components of the music. Otherwise, ‘Annihilation Cult’ is a heavy and massive sounding Death Metal-oriented piece of Bestial Black/Death Metal. All the typical elements are here and form a barrage of sonic torment that is reminiscent to the aforementioned Revenge/Conqueror blueprint mixed with something that comes close to what Sadomator did on their classic albums.

Nothing that you haven’t heard before, obviously, instead Annihilation Cult is a treat for fans of the classic Ross Bay Cult-sound. Wild and aggressive, but mostly just a collision of primal and dark energy that is only given to a few bands to execute in a credible and genuine way. You can definitely count Annihilation Cult to that group of War Metal bands that still proudly keep the banner of the genre high.
