Weird Angel is a Black Metal band from Worcester, Massachusetts. They formed around 2022 under the name of Crüecifer, released a demo titled ‘Weird Angel’ (sic) but changed the band name after line-up changes.
Musically Weird Angel plays a blend of heavy bass-driven primeval Black Metal with Thrash, Doom and Death Metal influences and even hints of psychedelic music as can be heard in the Middle-eastern opening chords. I can’t but help thinking this is a Black Metal version of Hellwitch, given the many breaks and tempo changes. Picture some old Unholy, with Hellhammer-esque riffing here and there and crazy tempo changes from slow to blast speed fast à la Hellwitch and you’re close. The songs never get boring because there’s musically simply too much going on.
The bands manages to put the listener from one foot to another with their brutal and unique compositions. Vocals are outerworldly sinister hissed and snarling, which only add to the primitive expression of the music.
This music simply oozes with chaos, insanity and evil. The Crüecifer demo was already in the same style and this demo only solidifies their strength. Initially limited to a mere 50 copies, Spanish Profaner Records took it upon him to give this 4-track demo a proper and official release.
Weird Angel is something to look out for, so by all means: have a listen.
