Bestialgoat – Infernal Goat Of Extermination

bestialgoat – infernal goat of extermination

Info

With a back catalogue consisting of releases with black/white/red tones on the cover and titles of which the words are separated.by.dots. it is not too hard to guess what we are dealing with musically. The goats, bullet belts and gas masks betray the last bit of doubt: Bestialgoat (oh yes, the name too) brings you unadulterated Bestial Black/Death Metal.

As a fan, such releases are always a treat, and so is ‘Infernal Goat Of Extermination’. Not so much because of the groundbreaking dramatics or the well-executed sophistication, but simply because of the fun of the genre. Because, honestly, there are many bands that are many times better that Bestialgoat, but when this kind of music is brought with full devotion and dedication, that is always already a reason to rate the result with a wide enough mark.

Bestialgoat operates with a drum machine, something that is not exactly unprecedented but also not something that always makes for great results. Such is the case here, the drums sound a bit weak and flat, both in toning and in the mix. Still, it also has its charm and brings something of a unique flair. The guitars actually hook on to the somewhat shallow sound of the drums so that the overall also sounds pretty flat. The aforementioned charm of this can be traced back to a time when demo tapes in this style brought a similar sound. For that, however, we have to go back about a quarter of a century, and for many that means a deep dive to the bottom of their boxes of demo tapes. For an extra dose of authenticity, or maybe even nostalgia, the vocals are occasionally equipped with a bellowing pitch shifter. The picture seems ever so complete.

‘Infernal Goat Of Extermination’ won’t go into the books as the most celebrated record in the history of the Bestial Black/Death Metal scene, but who cares! Whether this is a record that will take the high ground or plunge into oblivion, I was more than well entertained in this half-hour. And in the end, that’s worth a lot.
