While the band already released a full-length album and a couple of (more recent) split releases, the band is now presenting a cassette tape with the title of ‘El Triunfo Del Caos’. It compiles both of Vulvacult’s first demo tape from 2018 as well as that only full-length. We are being served with those recordings in a-chronological order, which means that on side A we find the ‘Creencias Siniestras De Afirmaciones Malditas’-album, originally released in 2021 through War Vellum and reissued on CD by Austral Holocaust Productions in the fall of 2023. Side B gives us ‘Lapidarias Emanaciones’, the bands first released recordings from 2018, that saw its release on two different versions on both cassette tape and CDR.
Musically we can easily classify Vulvacult within the framework of South American Black/Death Metal, slightly chaotic and super authentic. Based on the wild scene of the 80’s of their home continent (Sarcófago obviously comes to mind), but also with a more than obvious nod to early Slayer (love those screaming falsetto’s), Necrovore, Hellhammer and early Samael.
I already touched upon it briefly, but what makes both of these recordings more than worthy of a reissue is the great youthful energy and overall authenticity of the music. The excess of reverb on the vocals and the live-feeling of the recordings itself do give these songs a real 80’s feeling. It will not be too difficult to make anyone believe that these recordings are actually forgotten demos of any band from the ferocious eighties when the real extremes in the metal scene began to emerge.
The buzz-sawing echo of Hellhammer is omnipresent and poured in a truly untamed and exciting mould of chaos and disorder. The result is beautifully unrefined and full of zestful juvenile vitality. If you share the same admiration for Latin American “Ultra Metal”, this tape, released in 100 units, is definitely worth picking up.
