Acephalix – Theothanatology

acephalix – theothanatology

Info

Coming back after another five years of there being a lack of new material, Acephalix have returned, once again. Acephalix have been around as a band since 2007 but decided to take a hiatus between 2011 and 2015, only to return from that hiatus with the rather good, and VM-Underground reviewed, ‘Decreation’ in 2017. Now, well as of 2022, after another five year wait, we are getting their fourth, and latest, full-length in ‘Theothanatology’ here.

‘Theothanatology’ here is the next step in the overall evolution of Acephalix. And when it comes to this band progression is not about substantial change or major evolution but about honing their songwriting, becoming better musicians and just improving the existing base sound as a whole.

But what does all that progression have do to their initial sound? Nothing really. I still think Acephalix sound like Necrot and Grave with the vocals of only what I could describe as mix of the best Chris Barnes ever sounded and George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher” together. Seriously, it’s like that, cadence and all. And with the improvements to songwriting (it’s much more catchy and memorable) and their skills combined with that core sound you get one killer joyride of a Death Metal album.

So, yeah, it’s what it would be like if Necrot, Grave and Cannibal Corpse had a three way love child. Which, for me, is a sound that makes me throw horns, bang my head and smile. So, yeah, it is enjoyable as fuck. Check it out.
